Twelve Title Winners Among ATX Open Entries

Twelve players who have won a combined 48 WTA titles are among the players heading to Austin this month for the ATX Open at Westwood Country Club

AUSTIN, Texas – The initial entry list includes a pair of Grand Slam champions – two-time Australian Open winner Victoria Azarenka and former US Open champion Sloane Stephens – along with a pair of NCAA tournament champions – Peyton Stearns from Texas and Danielle Collins from Virginia. 

These four are among the 23 initial entrants for the Feb. 24-March 3 WTA tournament. 

“We cannot wait to welcome the Hologic WTA Tour back to Austin later this month for the ATX Open,” said Tournament Director Christo Van Rensburg. “As we saw last year, having a deep player field means there will be great competition throughout the entire week, and certainly every player on this list has the potential to hoist our trophy on championship Sunday. We’re eager for the players to get here and the tournament to get underway.”

The field includes players representing 12 countries, and features seven Americans, all of whom are returning to play the ATX Open for a second time. 

Stearns, who helped UT to back-to-back of NCAA team titles, was the 2022 H-E-B Women’s Pro Tennis Open champion and is joined in the field by fellow DropShot Series winner Victoria Jimenez Kasinteva.

Azarenka, the mother of 7-year-old Leo, is one of four moms in the field. She is joined by Yanina Wickmayer (Luana, 2), Anastaija Sevastova (Alexandra, 1) and Taylor Townsend (Ayden, 2).

An additional six players will join the field following two rounds of qualifying play which will be part of the ATX Open’s opening weekend Feb. 24-25. Up to two additional wild cards may be awarded and one special exempt may also be added to round out the 32-player field.
