Petra Kvitova, the two-time Wimbledon champion playing in her first event since giving birth last year, will face 189th-ranked Jodie Burrage in the first round of the ATX Open. Burrage, a 25-year-old Brit, has never faced Kvitova, 34, who currently doesn’t have a WTA ranking. Burrage and Kvitova are in the top half of the draw with top-seeded American star Jessica Pegula, the fifth-ranked player in the world, who will face Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands in the opening round. Pegula and Rus have faced off three times, with Rus winning twice on clay, and Pegula winning their sole hardcourt matchup way back in a qualifying round in 2019.

Second-seeded Diana Shnaider, ranked No. 13, anchors the bottom half of the draw and makes her ATX Open debut against one of the six qualifiers in the draw. The players in the qualifying tournament are scheduled to play two matches on Sunday because of Saturday’s wet and cold weather.

UT legend Peyton Stearns, seeded third after making a memorable debut in the inaugural ATX Open as a wild card two years ago, will face Varvara Gracheva of France, who was the finalist that year. Yuan Yue, seeded fourth, will open defense of her 2024 ATX Open title with a match against Kimberly Birrell of Australia.
