Collins to Join Azarenka, Stephens at 2024 ATX Open

Star Trio Set to Headline Austin’s WTA Tournament in February

AUSTIN, Texas – The ATX Open has announced a third player commitment for 2024, with Danielle Collins set to join previously announced Victoria Azarenka and Sloane Stephens. The trio will be part of the 32-player singles field at the Hologic WTA Tour tournament Feb. 24-March 3 at Austin’s Westwood Country Club.

“This is another fantastic addition to the ATX Open lineup and we are pleased to be generating such a strong and exciting field for our second year,” said Tournament Director Christo Van Rensburg. “Danielle was the first-ever player to commit to us and was even here when we launched the ATX Open, so we are thrilled that she is maintaining her close ties to Austin and the tournament. We look forward to her being joined by Vika and Sloane in 2024.”

Collins was a semifinalist at the inaugural ATX Open. During the 2023 season she also reached the final four in San Diego while adding quarterfinals in Montreal and Adelaide. She is a two-time title winner on the WTA Tour, claiming both in 2021. The following season, she posted her career-best performance in a Grand Slam by reaching the final at the Australian Open, which helped her climb to a career high ranking of No. 7. At the University of Virginia, Collins was a two-time NCAA singles champion.

She joins a pair of Grand Slam title winners in Azarenka and Stephens in committing to play the 2024 ATX Open.

Azarenka is a two-time Australian Open champion who spent 51 weeks as the WTA’s No. 1 ranked player. She has 21 WTA titles and has been runner-up on 20 other occasions, including three times at the US Open and once at the WTA Finals. In 2023, she reached the Australian Open semifinals and finished in the Top 20 of the WTA Rankings for the first time since giving birth to her son, Leo, in 2016.

Stephens, who has been ranked as high as No. 3 in her career, was a quarterfinalist in singles and doubles at the inaugural ATX Open. The 2017 US Open is one of the seven titles Stephens has won in her career, and her three runner-up finishes include the French Open and WTA Finals. Stephens was the recipient of the 2023 Women’s Catalyst Award, which is presented in partnership with Google and the Austin Community Foundation Women’s Fund, for her work with the Sloane Stephens Foundation.

The player field will grow in November when the winner of the DropShot Tournament Series H-E-B Women’s Pro Tennis Open held Nov. 13-19 at the Texas Tennis Center will be awarded an ATX Open wild card. In 2023, former University of Texas standout Peyton Stearns claimed that title and with her wild card into the ATX Open not only gained her first career WTA match win but also reached her first Tour quarterfinal.

Nearly 18,000 fans enjoyed the inaugural ATX Open that was capped by Marta Kostyuk winning the singles title, while Erin Routliffe, this year’s US Open doubles champion, teamed up with Aldila Sutjiadi to win the ATX Open doubles title.

Tickets for the second edition of the WTA 250 tournament are now on sale at ATXOpen.com. The tournament’s second edition will feature several changes, including additional seating around Center Court, expanded hospitality offerings in several locations, the new Cadillac Club offering views of Grandstand Court, additional special events, and a new opening weekend featuring qualifying matches and other activities to kick off tournament week.
