Late last night, Yue Yuan had a feeling. She couldn’t quite explain it, but something told her she might get a second chance at the ATX Open.

Hours later, that feeling proved right.

When 2025 ATX Open champion Jessica Pegula was forced to withdraw due to an unfortunate left knee injury, the door reopened. Waiting was lucky loser – and 2024 ATX champion – Yue Yuan, who had fallen in the second round of qualifying to Whitney Osuigwe just days earlier.

“I had a feeling when I went to bed last night,” Yuan said, smiling brightly after her first-round win over Rebecca Šramková.

It was a victory built on belief. Down 5–4, 40–0 in the second set, Yuan stared down three match points before mounting a stunning escape to turn the match around, closing the set 7-5 and dominating the third 6-1.

Austin holds special meaning for Yuan. Here, she captured her first WTA singles title, along with her second WTA doubles crown – milestones that deepened her bond with the city.

“I play really well in Austin,” she said, beaming. “I love that the people here support me. It gives me a lot of energy.”

Sometimes, opportunity comes back around. The question is whether you’re ready for it.
