ATX Open Tournament Director Christo Van Rensbug quite literally got the WTA Finals started at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth on Halloween.
Van Rensburg conducted the coin toss for the tournament’s first match which featured the top seeded Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova – winners of three Majors in 2022 – taking on Desirae Krawcyzk and Demi Schuurs.
“It was wonderful to be on hand to welcome the WTA back to Texas,” Van Rensburg said. “As a team, we benefitted from the opportunity to spend time with tour personnel and the players, and it was gratifying to hear how excited they are for the ATX Open to be part of the WTA Tour in 2023.”
The Hologic WTA Tour will return to Texas for the ATX Open Feb. 27-March 5 at Austin’s Westwood Country Club. The tournament recently released a rendering of the stadium that will be the tournament’s main court.
American Danielle Collins, a two-time winner on the WTA Tour, is the first player to commit to the field. Collins ended 2022 at No. 14 in the rankings, her best year-end ranking after a season that was highlighted by a run to the Australian Open final and her Top 10 debut. The 28-year-old was a two-time NCAA singles champion while playing at the University of Virginia.
The ATX Open will feature two daily sessions – one during the day and one in the evening – Monday, February 27 through Saturday, March 4. The tournament concludes with the singles and doubles finals on Sunday, March 5.
Tickets for all sessions of the tournament are on sale now. Full series packages starting at $450 provide the best ticket value to all 13 sessions. Reserved single session seating starts at $20+ for the opening rounds and $75+ for Sunday’s final round. Premium single session seating starts at $55+ for the opening rounds and $125+ for Sunday’s final round.
