Defending champion Jessica Pegula has been forced to withdraw from the ATX Open at Westwood Country Club in Austin, citing a left knee injury.

“I am disappointed to not be able to defend my title in Austin. I love this event and have such great memories from last year. Hopefully I can come back in the future” said Pegula.

“Jessica Pegula is one of the game’s great players today. We love having her at the ATX Open,” said Tournament Director Christo van Rensburg. “After winning Dubai just days ago, she was here in Austin this week to defend her ATX Open championship. We even had fans and tournament staff at Westwood Country Club serenading her this morning with ‘Happy Birthday.’”

“We are sad she had to withdraw due to a left knee injury, but tennis demands so much of the body, and as a player, you have to listen to your body’s needs. We know she’ll be ready to play again soon. We wish her well the rest of the season, and certainly hope to have her back at the ATX Open again in the future.”

Pegula has been replaced by lucky loser and former singles and doubles champion Yue Yuan.
